OTPBUSINESS ACCOUNT OPENING DESIGN
We helped OTPbusiness shorten and design an online account application process geared towards SMEs based on these objectives in the context of a project conducted using agile methodology. Using the inputs from weekly client tests and consultations with the business side, we continuously fine-tuned the wireframe, which once finalised, was given a fresh design. We also checked the outcome of the design process using eye tracking. The first step of the online application involves recommending an account package suited to the inquiring customer’s Banking practices following a brief survey. The main features and costs of the different account packages are
HAARMANIE.AT WEBSHOP DESIGN
Woocommerce is great for operating webshops which are offering a small range of products, and has a simple, user-friendly and easy to learn administrator interface for the client. We have already used the Royal Woocommerce template when designing another webshop (bagbolsa.hu). This is a well-developed template in terms of functionality, UX and design. The client had some functional expectations (automatic invoice creation, individually scalable special offers, Sofort Überweisung payment method) that the template did not contain as default functions; we have resolved these by searching and finding best plugins suitable for these purposes and integrating them. We used the tried-and-tested Asana
TELENOR CONVERSION OPTIMIZATION
Telenor assigned us with the first assignment in 2011 after we have published a concise piece about designing webshops with conversion in the focus. We were assigned with redesigning the product page of mobile phones. For the assignment, that required thorough planning, we were granted only 3-4 days. Despite the extremely short deadline we succeeded to redesign the page so well, that Telenor has become our permanent client and we were soon asked to evaluate the product search pages and to rethink the purchasing processes. Our cooperation with Telenor got to the next level in 2013 when we redesigned
MEMOQ WEBSITE SETUP
MemoQ is Kilgray Ltd’s translation support software, which is the second market leading software of its kind on the global market. It is a multi-faceted product. It serves well the needs of individual translators as well as those of large companies. Different types of clients are interested in different functions though. For this reason it was challenging to structure the content of the memoq.com website in a way that everyone can find with ease the information that is relevant for them. To organize content in a user-centered way we used the card sorting application on optimalworkshop.com, which enables users to
WEBSITE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT: YOGAART.HU
The client’s needs for the website were: content available in Hungarian and English, easy-to-use administrative interface, timetable with a class type filtering option, teacher profiles, gallery, rates, contact form, contact details, highlighting the benefits of doing Yoga. The development consisted of customising a premium WordPress template. The advantages of a premium WordPress template are: cost-effectiveness (the template costs USD 59), the template features the incorporated functions (timetable, teacher profiles, slider, etc.) which the client requested, so minor development adjustments were needed. The drawbacks of a premium WordPress template is bigger conceptual changes can only be implemented by substantially rewriting the
Paper prototype fidelity
Prototypes are the representation of a design concept which we prepare in order to communicate or test our ideas. Paper prototyping is a technique that involves quick hand drawn sketches of interfaces which are valuable assets for user testing. The paper prototype test session also requires a “human computer” who is responsible for acting as the computer when the participants interact with the paper screens. The technique has its obvious limitations (for example: it is difficult to simulate parallax scrolling) but it is pretty useful if we know for what and when to use it. Advantages of paper prototyping are:

“Mental images”, mental and conceptual models 2.
What are conceptual models? The mental model of the interface or website currently being used is referred to in psychology as the conceptual model. This conceptual model is shaped by the mental model of the designer who created and designed the interface. But what happens when the user and the designer have different mental models? There is no need to look far to find daily examples, and the consequences are also familiar. The user spends some time searching, but fails to find what he is looking for. It cannot be found where he is looking for it. He encounters different
“Mental images”, mental and conceptual models 1.
What are mental models and why should every development start by mapping out the user’s mental model of the attitude object (the service, application, topic, etc.)? What are mental models? For centuries, the central question investigated in not only psychology, but also philosophy and linguistics has been how we represent to the world in our minds. How do we think about simple or more complex processes, for instance how do we imagine the process of shopping, of sending money or mail, or just opening a chocolate egg. This — fairly accurate and practical— “mental image” defines the way in which
Content strategy
“What great content strategy this website has.” Has any user ever uttered this phrase? Certainly not. But why should they? If the information they are looking for is easily, quickly and simply accessible, and even up to date, and if this brings satisfaction to the user, then it is synonymous with them having made the above observation. Why is content strategy important? It helps us understand what content our users need, and helps us create it for them. It provides a long-term solution for publishing realistic, sustainable and measurable content. Creating effective and useful content allows cost cuts and the
